North Alabama Woodcarvers Association - NAWA
NAWA is a community of woodcarvers located in Huntsville, Alabama in the heart of the Tennessee Valley. We are passionate about promoting the love of carving, wood sculpting, whittling, and wood burning as an art and a hobby. We offer free classes in basic woodcarving, chip carving, and relief carving and hold an annual show and competition at the historic Round House in downtown Huntsville. Woodcarving is not difficult to learn, the tools to begin are not expensive, and we believe it will give you a lifetime of pleasure. We hope you will stay a while, explore our website, and join us soon at a monthly meeting, an Open Carving Session, a woodcarving class, or you can write to us at: firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF OUR MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES
We had a good turnout for the Christmas Dinner last night and a good time was had by all. There was lots of delicious food brought by members and, as usual, Sandra's Christmas story was a big success. All those who participated ended up with great gifts. Jose's gifts to the board members were hilarious and I'm sure I am joined by the entire membership in wishing to thank him for another great year as President and in expressing our appreciation to him for doing the newsletter until Diana took over this month.
All NAWA club meetings are at 6:30 PM at Mt View Baptist Church, 1413 McClung Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35801. Click HERE for a map.
It's HERE - this year's calendar. See it HERE or go to our Class page to read all about our Beginner Woodcarving program. While the classes are primarily intended for beginners, any member of NAWA is welcome to attend. Just be sure to let the instructor know you are coming so they can have enough blanks.
NAWA has a Facebook page which is maintained by our own Diana Hofmann. Click on the icon below to "Like us". Be sure to check it out and keep up with all the latest happenings. If you have any questions, please write to Diana at email@example.com.
NAWA Woodcarvers T-Shirts are still available and at a true bargain price of $10.00. Contact Debbie if you are interested.
Remember to pay your next year's dues to Debbie at your convenience. The membership voted to increase dues for 2015 to $20.00. I think we can all agree that this is still a major bargain and badly needed to offset the Club's increased expenses.
Due to an increase in rent on the Roundhouse, we will not be holding our annual show there in the future. We will also no longer be obligated to volunteer for Santa's Village as we have in the past. In an effort to secure another location, Sandra and Tom Horn have made an exhaustive round of all the possible sites for next year's show and have found that the Jaycee Building on Airport Road in SW Huntsville perfectly fits our needs. It is not only affordable but we will no longer have to set up on Friday before the show as they will supply and arrange all of our tables. Parking is plentiful and free and the facilities are clean and well-kept. It only remains for us to secure it; hopefully for our usual weekend. The City will not allow anyone to sign up before January 2, 2015 so Sandra and Tom will be right there ready to sign on the dotted line that morning. They will keep everyone posted on their progress
We have a new newsletter editor. Though Jose has been doing a wonderful job for the past year, he deserves a break and Diana Hofmann has kindly agreed to take the job. Diana has many years experience in creating newsletters for similar organizations and you can certainly see her expertise in our December newsletter. If you have anything you would like to contribute to the newsletter or any items for sale to be included, please write to Diana at firstname.lastname@example.org.
